Kupwara, February 19 (KNO) : Hundreds of people on Tuesday afternoon participated in the funeral prayers of Abdul Rashid Head Constable who was killed in a gunfight with militants in Puwlama district in southern Kashmir on Monday that left four Army men, three militants, cop and a civilian dead. The body of Ab Rahid who has served in the police department for almost 11 years reached to his ancestral village Gabra in Tangdhar of northern Kashmir’s Kupwara district with hundreds of people including the relatives of slain cop. According to the KNO correspondent, slain Head Constable’s body was received by the Station House Officer (SHO) Karnah Nasir Ahmad, his team and officials from civil administration. The body was later handed over to the family members for last rites, after a wreath lying ceremony was held for the slain cop at DPL Srinagar on Monday evening. Notably, the body of Rashid was airlifted from Srinagar to Tangdhar for last rites since the Kupwara-Tangdhar road is closed for vehicular movement due to accumulation of snow on roads there, an official from police department said. Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended over the area, soon after the dead body of Head Constable reached to his native village. Scores of people had already assembled within the vicinity of his house to participate in the last rites of slain Head Constable. Rashid is survived by his two minor daughters, Hafsa Rashid, 6, Mehroz Rashid, 10-months-old, wife Tasleema Begum, 27, and an unemployed brother who lives along his family over the years now. He has also two more brothers who are settled with their respective families, while as the parents including mother and father of slain have expired already, said a close relative of slain cop. Hundreds of people from different parts of Karnah, Tangdhar and Teethwal including officials from police and civil administration attended the last rites of slain police man Ab Rashid despite road closure. Rashid was the sole bread earner for his family. A wreath lying ceremony was also organised in Tangdhar with SSP Kupwara Shirriam Ambarakar, SHO Karnah Nasir Ahmad and other officials from civil Administration participating in it. Rashid was laid to rest amid sobs and tears at their native graveyard in Gabra Tangdhar. (KNO)
